VITRUM warm glass art by Yolanda

A native of Barcelona Spain, Yolanda moved to Montreal with her family at the time of Expo '67. She grew up in the Eastern Townships and after graduating CEGEP at Champlain Regional College in Lennoxville QC, she moved to Barcelona in 1982 to attend medical school at the Universidad de Barcelona, her father’s alma mater. Family priorities brought her back to Montreal a few years later and she completed medical school at the Université de Montréal.

Yolanda moved to Toronto in 1990 for a rotating internship and worked in the GTA for a year as a general practitioner. She returned to the University of Toronto to train in internal medicine and medical oncology and also completed fellowships in breast cancer and clinical pharmacology. Yolanda moved to Kingston in 2000 and worked at the Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario until 2011. She continues to provide care to individuals with breast cancer in south-eastern Ontario from the Dr. Douglas A. MacIntosh Cancer Clinic based at the Belleville General Hospital. Yolanda has acquired additional expertise in medical legal matters as a Physician Advisor at the Canadian Medical Protective Association.

Yolanda is also a fused glass artist, having discovered this artform through courses at The Glass House in Kingston and Stained Glass Stuff in Ottawa. She bought a secondhand kiln in 2019, taking up warm glass in earnest during the pandemic, such that glass has become 'therapy' for her. She continues to learn new techniques to apply to her craft. She is a member of the Bath Artisans, the Greater Napanee & Area Arts Association and the Visual Artists of Gananoque and Area. Yolanda speaks French and Spanish, is married to an Italian pharmacist, and enjoys road trips in her yellow Mustang convertible, along with cooking and travelling.
